Kerala PSC Armed Sub Inspector (SI) 2026 – Apply Online, Eligibility, PET, Salary & Selection Process

By Super Notes

The Kerala PSC Armed Police Sub Inspector (Trainee) post is one of the most demanding and disciplined uniformed services under the Kerala Government. Unlike clerical or office-based PSC posts, this role is meant for candidates who are physically strong, mentally alert, and genuinely prepared for field-level police duties.

This recruitment isn’t just about clearing the written exam. Physical fitness, discipline, and consistency matter just as much as academic preparation. In this guide, Super Notes explains the notification details, eligibility criteria, physical standards, selection stages, and what aspirants should realistically expect from the Armed SI recruitment 2026.

Kerala PSC Armed SI 2026 – Important Dates

  • Notification Release Date: 28 November 2025
  • Application Start Date: 28 November 2025
  • Application End Date: 31 December 2025 (12 midnight)
  • Exam Date: Not yet announced (Check the official PSC website for updates)

Vacancy Details – What to Know Before Applying

Vacancies are divided into:

  1. Open Market Candidates
  2. Departmental Candidates (Graduate Head Constables, Police Constables, and officers of equivalent rank)
  • The rank list will be valid for one year, and appointments during this period will be made based on government rules and departmental vacancy reporting.
  • Unfilled vacancies will be carried forward as per existing government orders.

Eligibility Criteria – Armed SI Is Not for Everyone

Age Limit:

Open Market Candidates: 20–31 years (DOB between 02 January 1994 – 01 January 2005)
Departmental Candidates: Maximum 36 years (Merit-based selection, no relaxation)

Age Relaxations apply for SC, ST, OBC, and other categories as per Kerala PSC norms.

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university
In exceptional cases, candidates with Intermediate / Pre-University qualification may be considered (especially for SC/ST candidates if graduate candidates are unavailable).

Additional Qualifications:

NCC Certificates (A/B/C)
Sports achievements, Military training, or SPC certificates
These can add 2% to 5% marks, which can be decisive in close competitions.

Physical Standards – Non-Negotiable Requirements

The physical measurement is conducted before PET. Candidates who fail the physical measurement are eliminated immediately.

Height: 167 cm (SC/ST relaxation to 160 cm)
Chest: 81 cm with a minimum 5 cm expansion (SC/ST relaxation to 76 cm)
Vision (without glasses):
Distant Vision: 6/6 in both eyes
Near Vision: 0.5 in both eyes

Candidates must be free from physical defects such as flat feet, knock knees, varicose veins, colour blindness, squint, hearing or speech impairments. A Civil Surgeon’s medical certificate is mandatory.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET) – Where Many Fail

The PET is a serious hurdle in the recruitment process. To qualify, candidates must clear 5 out of 8 events. Failing in any event results in immediate disqualification, with no re-test, even in case of injury.

PET Events

100 meters run – 14 seconds
High jump – 132.2 cm
Long jump – 457.2 cm
Shot put (7.264 kg) – 609.6 cm
Cricket ball throw – 609.6 cm
Rope climbing (hands only) – 365.8 cm
Pull-ups / chin-ups – 8 times
1500 meters run – 5 minutes 44 seconds

PET Reality Check:

Physical fitness is equally important as written preparation. Start training months in advance to meet these standards.

Selection Process – Step-by-Step Reality

Written OMR Examination – Tests general knowledge, reasoning, and aptitude.
Physical Measurement & PET – Qualifying stages.
Document Verification – Ensure eligibility is met.
Medical Examination – To verify physical and medical fitness.

Final selection is based on combined performance across all stages. Departmental candidates are given priority in case of vacancies.

Training & Service Conditions

Training:

Duration: 1 year at Police Training College or other designated institutions
Stipend: During training, candidates are paid a stipend, and this period is not counted for service benefits.

Probation:

After training, candidates must complete 2 years of probation within a 3-year period. Only after successful probation are full service benefits granted.

Salary – What You Actually Earn

The Armed Police Sub Inspector post offers a pay scale of ₹45,600 – ₹95,600. After training, officers receive full salary plus allowances:

Dearness Allowance (DA)
House Rent Allowance (HRA)
Travel Allowance (TA)
Special & risk-related allowances
Medical benefits, leave benefits, and pension

While the salary is attractive, the responsibilities and discipline expected in this role are equally demanding.
